RUIJIE ZHU – BIO

Rui-Jie Zhu is a Ph.D. student in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UC Santa Cruz, starting in the Fall of 2023, under the supervision of Jason Eshraghian. He recently earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. During his undergraduate years, Ruijie actively contributed to various open-source neuromorphic projects, such as snnTorch and SpikingJelly. Notably, he led the development of SpikeGPT, which stands as the pioneering spiking neural network generative language model. Beyond his contributions to neuromorphic projects, Rui-Jie has a keen interest in large language models and was among the authors of the RWKV LLM model. In 2020, he served as the Chair of the Students Open-Source Conference (SOSConf), an event that garnered participation from over 3,000 attendees online. Rui-Jie’s primary research focus revolves around facilitating the advancement of large-scale spiking neural networks. Outside of academia, he is an enthusiast of filmmaking and hiking, and he is also known for his talent as a landscape photographer.
